MEI’s talented, experienced staff collaborate with health care communities, foundations, and organizations, to provide health care professionals with medical education that ultimately benefits patient care.

Karen J. Abbas, RN, MS, AOCN
Education Director, Nursing
Karen J. Abbas is responsible for overseeing and developing content for all continuing nursing education activities and serves as liaison to the Nursing Education Committee. Ms Abbas has over 20 years of oncology nursing experience, and currently applies her clinical skills as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, on a per diem basis, at the Abramson Cancer Center of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As an educator, she focuses on evidence-based medicine, as well as innovative nursing and patient education tools. Ms Abbas has been an Oncology Clinical Nursing Specialist (CNS) at several hospitals in Illinois and New York, responsible for educating radiation and medical oncology nurses and developing several programs, including an “Oncology Bridge to Practice” for graduate nurses. She was instrumental in the development of 2 breast cancer centers and a peripheral stem cell transplant program. Ms Abbas received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, her Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her Master’s degree in Nursing from Pace University, Pleasantville, New York.

Allison Kovacs Lejeune
Executive Director
As Executive Director, Ms Lejeune oversees the development and management of the educational initiatives within MEI. She ensures that all components and logistics of each program are carried out smoothly, on time, and within budget. Her continuous assessment of MEI procedures ensures their efficiency and maintains service excellence. She supports the education directors to uncover educational gaps for physician, nursing, and pharmacist audiences. She also prepares proposals, budget estimates, and project timelines and tracks fiscal activity. Ms Lejeune’s experience includes the management of continuing education programs and strategic planning. Allison also has extensive expertise developing and implementing key processes and procedures to ensure program excellence. She received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola College.
